Monday Musings..
3 Positive things that I've enjoyed or thought about this week. Everything, and anything from nutrition to interesting podcasts, books, a quote that resonated with me or productivity tips. Sometimes just my general musings and thoughts I've had that week..
1.) Nutritionist, Pixie Turner's amazing TedTalk, 'Why there is no such thing as good or bad food.'
I have followed Pixie for years now, she is an incredible nutritionist and speaks incredibly profoundly in this TedTalk all about the binary language so often used when discussing food. It is a topic I am incredibly passionate about also, and have found it empowering in my own life to dismantle language which was moralising food to me. We are often raised with this type of language all around us. As children we hear it from adults, as teens from our friends at school and it's ubiquitous when we become adults ourselves! But, we can be the change that is needed, watch Pixie's amazing talk and reflect on what language you may be using which could be effecting your relationship with food or effecting others around you.
I love Pixie's approach to nutrition and her quest to break down 'nutri-bollocks', as she coins it. Definitely follow her for evidence-based, no bull nutrition. Her website is below.

2.) Hot cross buns....
I know these can be bought all year round now, but each year just before easter I re-find them and they taste better every year! I like to work my way around the supermarkets and so far Co-op is coming out on top! With a cuppa tea and a slavering of butter.... perfect!
3.) Where to turn for nutrition advise..
The last one this week is just some general thoughts i've been having.. The further I get into my dietetics degree the more heightened my awareness of nutritional misinformation becomes. I have been noticing even more recently, certain diets being advised, or information that is misguided, or not based in proven research being shared both online and in person. So here’s some quick points of guidance and some things to be wary of..
If you are looking for nutrition advise or want to follow people for general nutritional information…
If relating to symptoms see your GP and discuss referral to a Dietitian.
For personalised one-to-one nutrition advise, contact a Registered Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian. You can find registered professionals at the link below.

If you are following anyone online or taking in nutritional advice, only look to registered Nutritionists or Registered Dietitians. They will include this in their bio and will both have done a degree in the field.
Be wary of.…
Anyone, in your life or online promoting any diet or way of eating that requires you to cut out any foods/food groups. (Unless you choose to personally for ethical or religious reasons). No food group should ever be cut out unless diagnosed with an illness which requires this as treatment. (If you are concerned about an intolerance please see your doctor first.)
Anyone or any company encouraging you to buy things to be healthy. Whether it's buying supplements, powders, e-books with nutrition advise, just be wary. Health does not mean buying products, and neither does the answer lie in a magic pill, or powder.
Anyone using the rhetoric, 'this worked for me, so it'll work for you', or any statement along those n=1 lines. We are all individual and that's amazing. Food and what we choose to eat and why we choose it is also incredibly individual. And that is exciting and amazing too!! There are so many factors, that effect the health, well being and appearance of someone, that just eating the same way as another we will not ever have the exact same outcome as them. Be wary of anyone giving nutrition advise in this way.
Happy new week! I hope reading my three musings brings a little positivity into your new Monday..
